(Spring 2008)
The Brigade has undergone somewhat of a transformation over the last year or so. From there being a mere handful of those on call we now have nineteen firefighters with pagers at their sides twentyfour
hours a day. Our response (in terms of time and numbers) are now amongst the best in the State. We have two more members who are undergoing 'basic training' in order to be allowed to head out un-supervised.
We have three cadets ready to head out shortly too. They have come through our 'Junior' section and are as good as any of the older guys in equipment handling, theory and first-aid. The 'Junior' training
programme has had to take a back seat of late due to so many courses being undertaken but it is an area we will revitalise soon.
The 'auxilliary' (support group) is a major priority too. Even if you don't want to be an active firefighter there are vital areas of support that you may wish to consider. For instance the Station radio needs to be
monitored during every call-out. If this needs to be done by someone who could well be 'on the ground' it means diminishing fire fighting personnel. Food and
drinks need to be prepared either for delivery to the fireground or when crews return to the Station for a break.
If you'd like to know more about joining then you can drop in at a Brigade training (date of next one on the front page), visit the
TFS website or contact one of the Brigade Officers for further details.
